Fine Greek cuisine at PlatiaCitigaming November 2009VIBEY, traditional Greek Taverna Platia held their media launch yesterday at the new Emporium at Emperors Palace. The food and entertainment were way above par. Husband and wife owners Christo and Gabby Malamas ensured guests left replete and dying to return.Platia offers guests authentic Greek cuisine in true Mediterranean style. Signature dishes, that will gratify even the most discerning palate, include Kleftiko, a slow roasted marinated lamb shank packed with aromatic herbs; Moussaka, a traditional combination of tender layered aubergines and Galaktobouriko, a decadent baked custard dessert wrapped in delicate phyllo pastry.
Wine, parties and songThe Citizen - 2009/11/19I HAVE to admit that the last week has been wildly busy but more fun than one person should really be allowed to have legally. On Tuesday Platia held their media launch at Emperors Palace’s new Emporium. Aside from having an affinity for Greek food (read: salivate at the thought of it); I am fascinated by the Greek culture and traditions. Effervescent owners Christo and Gabby Malamas may have regretted inviting me though as I was the very last to leave and broke more than my fair share of plates that night. I am not easily impressed by new restaurants (occupational hazard) but Platia left me with no reason to complain; and our waiter Esau was one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of being served by. I moved from table to table and from smoking to non-smoking but he tracked me down with a smile and most importantly a refill for my wine glass (which by the way I am sure was leaking judging by the dull thump in my head on Wednesday morning). I would suggest you pay them a visit as I really cannot do Platia justice in this small space. Oh, and the fact that a quick session on the roulette tables paid handsomely also helped make this a more than memorable evening.The Carousel very kindly invited me to their year-end media function on Friday night. Despite ludicrously high temperatures (at least four degrees hotter than Jozi), I managed to party the night away in the Cheyenne Saloon with my media counterparts and the management and marketing team of The Carousel. They really make it hard for a person not to love going to their casino complex, just ask my kids who had their own party at TumbleTown and the Magic Company! In this week’s issue we are running a great competition in conjunction with The Carousel so please don’t forget to enter.Thursday night was to be spent at home. But not mindlessly watching TV. As Pigg’s Peaks’ Poker Virgin I played in my first online poker tournament. No one was more surprised than me when I finished ninth in a field of 75. It’s amazing what a girl can do when she has an online personality to hide behind! More of the same kind of entertainment lies ahead in the coming weeks and will serve as a reminder of two things. Firstly, I really do have the best job in the entire world. And secondly, we live in a fantastic country which is oozing with talented people in every arena.
